On Being Self Employed

While at the hair salon (a 4 week interval event) this bitch just happened to see a copy of Bloombergs' Business Week. The cover story was titled 'The Permanent Temporary Workforce'. On the cover is a picture of a female executive with a shoulder bag over one shoulder, a skewed corporate badge around her neck and a potted plant in her right hand. The picture is completed by little 'blurbs' about being self employed complete with linear pointers to each of the items in the shoulder bag as well as various body parts of this female.

I would like to respond to this offensiveness by addressing each 'blurb' and the body part or accessory associated with it. Mind you this is MY response and is not intended to speak for anyone else except me.

#1 blurb points to the females head and says 'higher rates of depression and anxiety'.

Depression? Anxiety? Hardly. As a self employed person I do not have to deal with the workplace bully or the executive that jumps up and down on a table in a client meeting. (Really happened.) I don't have to worry about some bosses nephew standing at my desk trying to have me his assignments to do and then getting PO'd and running to the boss and I end up in trouble because of his lazy ass.

#2 blurb points to a bottle of red vicks cough something in the shoulder bag and says 'pays for own health insurance'.

Health insurance? Is that what they called that rat ass plan that my husband put me on when we were married? The rat ass plan that had us going to this dentist whose office looked like a roach motel? The health insurance plan that had a 5.00 an hour customer service person tell me 'Well, you had better get this straight with your doctor, we are no longer paying for the brand name of this hormone. You are going to have to make do with the generic'. Health insurance? That rat ass plan that raises premiums every six months by zip code even if I have had no claims?

Children....please.

Speaking of doctors how about the OPTHAMOLOGIST that tried to kill me by giving me timolol when I was being treated for the glaucoma that SHE SAID I HAD, that subsequent evaluations by a real doctor that actually ran tests to measure my cornea show that I did not have? This same WOMAN doctor in Irving Texas also got angry with me for building up resistance to medications for the disease that I did not have and charged me when my husband too me back after using the timolol and was in occular migraine.

How about the GP that was SO CONCERNED about me getting a mammogram that she refused to write me a prescription for my hormones until I got the mammogram and then neglected to give me a prescription for the hormones when she sent me the letter informing me that the girls were just fine. That Miss Thang is in Flower Mound Texas.

I have no health insurance. I don't want health insurance. Since I have not had health insurance I take better care of myself and monitor my health with yearly blood work from DirectLabs.com. We have a medical investment account managed by my husband and I am able to get discounts for paying by credit card and some AA miles as well. Screw health insurance.

#3 blurb Zero sick days. How many people use their sick days for play days? Enough said. If my ass is that sick I will take my laptop to bed with me. As a matter of fact, since I am agile and mobile, I can take all my work on an external hard drive and work from anyplace I please.

#4 No Paid Vacation. See #3. I can work anyplace anywhere I want to be, that means on vacation as well.

#5 blurb 26% of US workers. Looks like more people are getting smart, to me that is.

#6 blurb No company funded retirement plan. OH!!! You mean that I don't have that crap stock that you want me to buy while you sell every share you have???? Happiness and joy that I do not have to participate in the company retirement plan that pushes under performing mutual funds and charges more in fees than interest earned if you go to cash. I get the Scottrade accounts and hubby who sits at the computer all day and trades and manages my money.

#7 blurb Easy to lay off, no severance. Oh no....it's easy for me to kick your non-paying pain in the ass client self to the curb.

#8 blurb No fixed occupancy costs (this one points to the plant). Excuse me, what part of 'I don't want to be chained to the crappy steel desk in the cramped cubicle do you not understand'? As a gunslinger I travel the world on everyone elses' money and take my office with me. Why would I want to 'clock in and out', get 30 minutes for lunch and have someone have an apoplexy fit if I posted on FaceBook or Twitter?

Bottom line. Bloomberg.....get a life. Not everyone in this employment situation is whining and crying.

For the past year I have just been trying to keep both my ass (read: household) and tech start up breathing. Just like everyone else out there as well. Even though things have been tight, I have always made all of my credit card payments on time and in full. Since I use these for groceries, gas and whatever to get my airline miles that I use to fly to see the daughter get married or meet with software team, it's important to me to treat these cards like cash and always stay on top of my budget. So, one may infer, that at the worst, I am a creditworthy customer who pays bills on time.

However, it seems that Citibank has decided that since I do pay off my card each month then I surely would not mind it if they raised my interest rate to 23.99%. Citibank fails to realize that the only reason that I have this card is for American Airlines AAdvantage miles. What to do? Canceling an account that I have had for 15 years will just ding my credit score, so I had to find an alternative. I did: American Express. Platinum, Plum and Blue. Amex figured out that if you give great service people will pay to carry your cards. So now I earn points for miles with AMEX platinum and blue and get 1.5% cash back if I pay my Plum card balance off within 10 days of the statement. Easy to do with Bill Pay.

So Citibank, when I pay off the 50.00 fast food balance every month, remember that it used to be 1500.00. You made more on merchant fees on 1500.00 than 50.00. Pretty good since you are a zombie bank anyway.

...don't get me wrong. My faith is intact...it's just left the psycho ward...and took me with it.

Free your mind...sooner or later your ass will follow. I can't remember who I need to ascribe that to but whoever you are 'thank you'. I started freeing my mind about a year ago, reading 'A New Earth' by Eckhart Tolle; then broke with the religious right and voted for Obama.

Now since then this bitch has been suffering through all manner of racist, bigoted garbage in her email box from a retired pastors wife, a current elders wife and other various and assorted sundry so called christian brethern. Scared white folks mad because a black man had the nerve to get elected President of the US of A.

Here is my problem. These people sit in church every Sunday, happy as all get out to call on the Lord and worship and confess their sins (except the emailing kind...) and then revert to some otherworld neuro-psychotic state of mind when it comes to our President. I finally figured out why these people are in church. They are there for the get-your-ass-out-of-jail-free-card. After all, we are taught that Jesus died for our sins...all of them. So people are certainly taking advantage of that by participating willfully in the small-church-group-psychosis-about-the-President, not realizing the damage they do to the very people they are supposed to care about.

There is nothing more evil and disgusting than a born again christian with an ego the size of Jupiter vomiting all over other people.

Sick and tired of working for people who manage by riding the gravy train and then so something when things get 'interesting'. The problem is what they do: scream, jump up and down, blame everyone else, blah blah and more blah and blame and whining and victim hood.

Wah and more wah. Do you think that maybe a proactive manager would have CALLED the lessee and DISCUSSED the situation with them? When they missed the FIRST PAYMENT????? Maybe they would have...but not this bunch! I have never seen a greater display of sloth in all my life.

As someone who believes in MANAGING their daily shit, this makes me crazy. Fortunately, people understand that when I represent my crazies, I am not crazy and we get things done.

As I was working out this AM (people that stay HOME on New Years' Eve can do that) FOX news channel was on the tv monitor and of course the big news is the attack on Gaza by Israel. After months of effectively blocking supply routes, (the reason for the Hamas rockets), Israel launched the attack that they started planning six months ago. Who knew? Israel has started a genocide against the Palenstinans and FOX news wants the evangelical right to 'stand with Israel' by emailing and calling in.

I have a home in a safe neighborhhod. I have food and clothing and money. I am blessed that my son, shot in the head during a car jacking and left for dead in the spring is now fully recovered and starting college in one week. No one has declared war on me, and no one is trying to exterminate me.

Me and my life, the Palestinians and theirs. The inequality is staggering.

What I want for 2009 is:

A world where children go to sleep in their own beds with full stomachs.

A world where gender or nationality is not an excuse for attack.

A world that provides an equal opportunity financial system.

A world that provides food, education, medical care and housing for its' poor.

A world where religious fundamentalists don't run the governments of any country.

A world whose different cultures and societies respect and give equal rights to women.

A world where everyones' place is theirs and theirs alone.

President Elect Obama needs to get the economy fixed. (We all know he had no idea that the shit would be this bad when he started campaigning 2 years ago).

US Foreign Policy needs to get fixed and give the Palestinians a fighting chance at some kind of a country where they can live, work, raise their families and prosper. Can we have a foreign policy that does not mean we invade sovereign nations because they looked at us wrong or are not doing what we think they should do.

Someone needs to put some shrink wrap and duct tape on Israel.

Can we just let GM and Chrysler go away? Ditto the shrink wrap and duct tape for Hank Paulson, is that putting the fox in charge of the henhouse or what?

For the citizens of a country to thrive, there has to be an environment for them to thrive in. Just as we have air to breathe and water to drink in our environment, there has to be an economic environment that enables and welcomes the participation of all citizens.

Its a fact that many democratic senators, Barney Frank comes first to mind, were paid a lot of money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Its also a fact that both Obama and McCain were making noise about theses institutions as early as 2004.

I have contacted my two US Senators and advised them that they are idiots. I also reminded them that they are elected by voters and this voter would never vote for either one of them again. I also have a bet with my husband that neither one has the nerve to contact me by email or phone or personal visit as well.

The people we elect are supposed to be leaders. Their mission is to represent the people. It is abundantly clear that the members of the US congress and senate DO NOT represent the citizens of the USA. They represent their own self interest and the interests of the lobbyists that stuff their pockets in return for votes.

As for me....I am voting for the new guy, it's time for the old guys and gals to go. Especially Nancy Pelosi, Dick Lugar, Kay Bailey Hutchison, John Cornyn, Barney Frank, Hillary Clinton and all the rest of 'em!

We must elect people to represent us that have as their mission the duty to represent all citizens, to make sure that the educational, economic and health care environments are healthy so that all can participate each according to his ability and that the elderly, disabled and impoverished will receive according to their needs.

No one is talking about passing out free money to anyone. The money police are not going to raid the homes of the wealthy, open the safes, or drive the owners to the banks to withdraw their money at gunpoint...but ... that's exactly the picture that is being painted by the republican party and the right wing fundie wacko media right now.

We must have an equitable economic environment that makes sure no one is hungry, homeless, without health care and without education. I don't see that with the current congressional, senatorial leadership or a mccain presidency either.

My grandchildren are in abstinence only sex education and because they are comfortable asking their parents the hard questions day one was rough and each day is rough as well. Can anyone tell me how someones views on abortion will ensure that disabled adults and children receive medical care?

Considering Barack Obamas speech today regarding his pastor at Trintiy UCoC I have to admit that I am totally embarrassed.

Face it, Jeramiah Wright is a bigoted fruitcake. But thats OK because this is America, land of the First Amendment. Wright has as much right as anyone else to spew racial hatred as the white supremacist agrarian racist fruitcakes on the many southern born and bred websites. We may not like it and we may decry it but hey....like it or not...the guy has a right to speak his mind. (If you can call it that.)

My problem is twofold.

If Trinity is a church and churches are about preaching the gospel, then Trinity needs to have their tax free status revoked by the IRS as the message has changed from the gospel to politics and race issues.

The second problem stems from the fact that Wright seems to have lost what the gospel is really all about. If he were to preach the gospel..really preach the gospel would there be a need for racist fruitcake ranting from the pulpit? Does this man even know WHAT the gospel is? Does he even know who Jesus is? What kind of pastor...who supposedly has a call from God to preach uses Gods' name in vain in a sermon? What kind of pastor called by God to preach preaches hatred in Gods name?

I can appreciate Barack Obama addressing the racial issues, however I would like to hear him address how he can stand by a man who professes Christ yet shows everything that is the antithesis of Christ by his words.

That alone would be enough to sever this relationship...regardless of whether or not the pastor married him, baptized his children and was his spiritual mentor. If Barack Obama is a professing christian he needs to stand up and say that Wright is conpletely wrong and has left his first love. Which is what Christ is supposed to be to any professing Christian. (Now I know that all of you right wing religious Pat Robertson/Jerry Fallwell/Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity crazy assess out there will say that the first love is the repukelican party and taking dominion over society...but we really all do know how its' really supposed to be don't we?)

If Wright is the kind of spiritual mentor who is the antithesis of all things Christ why does Obama continue to cling to him? Who is the goat in this picture?

Uncle Ben and the Federal Reserve (see valentine to ben posted earlier) have bailed out Bear Stearns to the tune of we-can't-tell-you but the Bear has a write downs of 2.75 BILLION mostly due to the mortgage sub prime people-who-could-not-buy-toilet-paper-got-to-buy-houses-financed-by-someone-with-less-brains....financial mess the USA is now in.

JPMorgan-Chase was the one who pumped in capital into the bears cave with the blessings of Uncle Ben. Chase is in pretty good shape...do I smell this bear getting eaten alive?

Which leads me to remember just how pissed off I am that theres even a fucking sub prime crisis to begin with.....

In 2004 hubby & I decided that we needed more space (we really did) and we decided to buy a new house with sorta well known to the 1st time home builder whose CEO resigned after back dating some options.....

Bottom line...since I was applying for the mortgage in my name only you would have thought the world had come to an end....all I heard from various home builder mortgage brokers was: Miss Bitch you are self employed.

No shit.

The last moron that said that to me received the "I know that you stupid bitch" answer at which point my husband sweetly (he knew better) asked me to go get something to drink....

Bottom line, told home builder mortgage people to fuck off and applied at national savings & loan. The mortage system was so fucked up there that I was dealing with a loan officer in FLORIDA and an underwriter in San Francisco who kept having fights with his boyfriend who then would get pissed and go nuts at work....

Home Builder was pissed that we did not buy 20,000 worth of upgrades when we built the house and used only 7800 of our 9700 in incentive money leaving extra money on the down payment. They took 10 months to build a 120 day house....and then had the nerve to want a good customer service survey... WTF?????????????

S&L Branch manager saves my ass. (NOTE: When dealing with S&L never call the 800 number always go to the branch...the executive people are CLUELESS....) we close and move in.

That 169,900 house could have cost our asses nearly 200,000 if we had bought all the shit home builder wanted to sell us at hyper inflated prices. Of course the home builder mortgage company would have financed all the shit we wanted at 2 points above what everyone else was getting because my ass was self employed.

Instead of buying their high priced lighting I bought on sale at Home Depot and Overstock.com. Same with the storm doors...Andersen at Home Depot. I also got blinds for 22 windows for about 1050 from an online website...75% less than home-builder studio.

Bottom line....people just got too fucking happy with shit and no one ever looked at the future and said Hmmmm what happens IF? BTW most of the variable rate mortages were tied to the LIBOR (London Index Bank Overnight Rate) and when that bitch moved...it moved...straight up! We refi'd our variable rate that was on its way to 7.5 back to 5.8 30 year fixed 24 months after closing.

People got caught because they were not educated consumers. For fucks sake people...get with it! If you are going to sign a note for several hundred thousand dollars don't you think some education is in order? Like WTF am I signing? WTF does it mean ? Will my ass be able to pay for it if shit gets nasty? Then you better learn how to figure with a calculator the shit is nasty results and show much it will cost your ass as well. WOW a couple of people actually were convicted of those crimes over 30 years later. I remember how at our high school one of my friends was arrested for wearing a black power shirt. I REMEMBER how all the the students at that high school both black and white walked out in protest. I REMEMBER when having black friends got a white person called a n*&&^% lover.

I REMEMBER. Which is more than Hillary can say.

What if LBJ had not been forced to push this legislation?

Would there still be lynchings?

Hey I am all for doing good works...as a matter of fact I am all for everyone doing good works. It really is a 'one another world' we live in. There isn't anyone I know, christian or atheist that would not agree that it is good to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As a matter of fact..the atheists I know treat me a heck of a lot better than some of the more 'religious' people I know. Hmmmmmm.

Back to the topic.....the business of the church is to preach the gospel. I have heard the gospel and the more I hear of it...the more I reject the notion that the christian right should speak for me, tell me how to think and tell me how to vote. The business of any Christ or God minded person should be:

To do justice, to love mercy and walk humbly with your God; and love your neighbor as yourself. Frankly, being the person I am...it takes up most of my time just living by those words.

Yes my country is important to me, and I am going to vote for the person who in my mind, will do what he is called to do, what he swears to do, with his hand on a Bible, and that is: Defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

We live in a country where it is important that ALL citizens are treated as being equal, where ALL citizens are free to achieve as much as they desire to, and where all citizens when not able to care for themselves can count on a system of justice and equality to provide for them.

Sattelite broadband companies and radio make a fortune. Stocks drop like falling rock on a California hillside and are scooped up by a few people (mostly athiest or not really christians **).

2012: Well the world did not end. The losers that quit their jobs and ran for it look like fools (North, Andersons and Tippery???) again (see Y2K), the traders and investors that bought all of the stocks dirt cheap now control 90% of the wealth in the USA and the evangelical right looks like the village idiot AGAIN!!!! The internet, sattelite radio and broadband are controlled by one global investment company headed by a woman. . the NYSE, NASDAQ, Chicago Merc and all of the Foreign Stock Exchanges are controlled by the daughter of the owner of all the internet and communication stuff.

That would be nice now would it not??? Except there are a few issues that need to be addressed before we can ALL be prosperous. There are certain QUALITIES that PROSPEROUS PEOPLE POSSESS. There are also certain FORMS OF BEHAVIOR THAT ARE OBSERVED.

So what we have now is the AngryOldBabeInControlofHerself (B.I.T.C.H. if you will) list of the things that will help make one prosperous. PROSPERITY STARTS IN CHILDHOOD......

1. Discipline in the classroom. This means that parents get in touch with the teachers, stay in touch and support the efforts of the teachers. Conversly...teachers...DRESS AND ACT LIKE YOU MEAN IT!!!!!! Both teachers and students today dress like hip hop prison rejects. I remember MY gradeschool teachers....suits, coiffed hair, heels YES HEELS...and no one dared to talk back or mess with them. Those ladies meant business and we knew it.

2. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS..you are there to learn to read and write!!! Do it.

3. Children...ditch the peer pressure thing. My point is: Are these little hoodlums and hootchie mamas going to pay YOUR BILLS or help you when you are older, stupid and sitting in the gutter waiting for a handout? Somehow I doubt it.

4. Boys.....pull your damn pants up. The prison style that you embrace is worn in prison so that Bubbas' bitch is easily accessible from behind. Of course if thats your goal in life far be it from me to offer different advice.....

5. Girls....get dressed. why do you have to look and act like whores?????

6. Respect yourself. Learn proper english and maybe a foreign language too. Fluency in ebonics or other horrid colloquial grammar and accents (soupy southern drawls come to mind) will not get you the 6 figure job.....

7. Loose the underage/unmarried/unprotected sex. Is being the next baby-daddy or baby-mama YOUR next goal? Is having the next great disease YOUR idea of making your mark in the world? Oh yeah lets go to college while standing in the WIC line at the age of 17 with 4 kids strapped to your ass....Yeah guys...lets just keep on making those babies and baby-mamas...

8. READ READ READ...learn about the stock market. Learn about other people and places. Stop getting your news from CNN and troll the foreign student blogs and foreign newspapers on the internet to get other opinions. Go to the library. Somewhere the is a little old lady in a library that could make all the difference in your world.....ASK FOR HELP...

9. Keep yourself clean...hair...clothes..YOUR ROOM.

10. Set goals and go after them. Do you want college paid for? Can your ass run??? Then get on the track team or cross country team. Stop running from the police and RUN TO your future....

11. Learn to recognize stupid...people and behavior. Then go the other way. Do not make these morons your heroes.

12. Read about successful people...emulate them...drug dealers, pimps and whores are not successful people not matter how much money they flash.

13. Do not smoke, drink or use drugs.

14. Get a job and save and invest your money. Get up and go to work each and every day. Your money and propserity are out there...but you have to go and get them.

NO ONE IS GOING TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE YOU BETTER THAN LIVING IN A GUTTER SOMEWHERE.

Kind of reminds me of the way the Catholic Church coddled the child molesting priests for God only knows how many years....and now it turns out that Mark Foley was abused by a priest and that he is an alcoholic too and has entered into rehab. Kind of reminds me of the way police officers 'cover up' for the corrupt ones. Kind of reminds me of the way people just look the other way when devilish shit is happening...hoping it will all go away and no one will find out....all the while posturing and primping or is that pimping the higher moral ground.

I wonder if 'rehab' can fix Foleys child sexual predator within? Probably not. It's really amazing though how when people get caught its always the same lame - ass excuses:

Angry Old Bitches Pirate Red Chili
or as the Pastor said, "Damn that's HOT."

Ingredients:
1/2 bag of little red beans NOT kidney beans, the night before you start your chili soak these beans at least 15 hours and have them ready to go when you start the chili
2 pounds of nice meat, beef or venison. Ground or chunked your choice.
2 jars of chili pepper (one jar per pound of meat) 2.5oz each
8 lovely fresh cloves of garlic, use a press now!
1/2 very large onion chopped or 1 med size onion chopped
Chipotle pepper (Spice Islands is yummcious) heh heh heh
sea salt
some flour
some water spring not tap
tad smidge of olive oil
Large pan big enough to cook all of the meat
Crock pot

OK.first peel & press garlic cloves into large pan. Chop onion add to garlic. Add tad smidge of olive oil and saute this lovely mixture until it is golden.

Then add meat, cooking until done. Now for the chili powder. A good rule is 2-2.5 oz per pound of meat. Add and stir up your meat.

Now take sea salt and spread a fine layer over the entire top contents of the pan. Keep on cooking and stir it up good. Start adding some flour enough to make it thicken.

Now taste this mixture. It must be smooooooth and not bitter but hot as hell. (the hot should sneak up on your taste buds) if its bitter....add more salt just a tad smidge at a time until you are happy.

Now put this ambrosia into the crock pot and add the nicely soaked and ready to go little red beans.

Add some water to this mixture to dilute a little bit or to your own liking.

NOW...add chipolte pepper, I use about one tablespoon. This will add a smoky flavor to the chili. Use more if you are so inclined.

Cook on low at least several hours, until beans are right. Serve with chopped onion and shredded cheese on top and make some jalapeno cornbread too.

AOB noticed about six weeks ago that said owner had a lot of stockc marked 1/2 off. AOB asked if the business was closing. 'No' was the answer...note that AOB asked this question every week for a month. Last Saturday AOB picks up her mail and finds a letter advising her to get a new PO BOX ASAP as the business has been sold and "the new owners may not have time to start operations quickly enough to prevent a disruption in your business needs."

To add insult to injury, the (words escape me here people) owners had the nerve to sign 'Warm Regards'.
